In my continuing saga of political rants, let's hear it for the federal appeals court that determined the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional. I cannot be the only Gen-Xer that refused to stand for the Pledge in high school. That is, until our school got pissy about it and forced (oh what I didn't know as a child) to stand, but didn't have to recite the Pledge. Hell, I'm sure there are Hippies out there that refused to say the Pledge when they were in high school! So the story breaks mid-day, and already the media is saying the ruling will get over turned by the time it hits the Supreme Court. Well, if they could modify the Pledge in 1954, why not modify it now in 2002?!
I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America
And to the Republic
For which it stands,
One Nation
Forever United
Indivisible
With Liberty & Justice for all.
That's kind of redundant. How about...
I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America
And to the Republic
For which it stands,
One Nation
Diversity Celebrated
Indivisible
With Liberty & Justice for all. Are they too focused on preserving the country's identity to think that maybe a change would be appropriate at the times we now live in?
